Swiss (Herbed) Steak

Grandma….. Jim Mother’s Favorite

Ingredients

  • 1 full round steak (double tenderized by the butcher)
  • 1 medium onion thinly slice and quartered
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 TBS of Lawery Salt
  • 4 – 6 beef bullion cubes (granulated)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 TBS ground thyme
  • ½ tsp of pepper
  • 4 – 6 cups of water
  • 3 TBS of cooking oil

Directions

  1. Cut steak into serving size pieces.
  2. Mix Lawery salt, flour and pepper.
  3. Pound flour mix into the tenderized meat.
  4. Brown the coated meat in the cooking oil.
  5. Place meat in a covered cooking dish.
  6. For gravy one cup of water per one heaping TBS of flour mix per one granulated bouillon cube per person served.
  7. Mix gravy mixture well and pour over meat.
  8. Sprinkle with thyme and add bay leaves.
  9. Cover and bake at 350o F for 1.5 hour.
  10. Serve with mashed potatoes and a green vegetable.
